Hey all – Just got this from Laura Vincent (who folks may remember from our productions of Palace of the End and Closer)…
Independent theatre group Socratic Theatre Collective will be mounting a reverse gender production of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, directed by Elizabeth Bragg, and featuring Alum gals Laura Vincent as Hamlet and Dinah Watts as Polonius. This is not a cross-dressing version of the play, but roles are reversed so that “he” becomes “she” and “mother” becomes “father,” etc. It takes a new look at both a familiar story and our own assumptions of gender.
Hamlet runs October 27 – November 6 (with a preview on October 26) at the Hungarian Evangelical Christian Church @ 8 Robert Street, Toronto (one block west of Spadina, north off College): Tuesdays – Fridays @ 7:30 pm and Saturdays @ 2 pm & 7:30 pm.
Tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis (limited to 90 seats per show): General $15, Students & seniors $10, Tuesdays Pay-what-you-can
