Alum friends rock @ the Village and V-Day!

Just spent a long weekend with three days in a row of theatre, my friends – and I had a blast.

Catch our pal Andrew Batten in the Village Players’ production of Norm Foster’s hilarious comedy The Long Weekend.  Seriously, guys, the audience (Margot and Shaun Devlin were also with me for this one) was laughing so much that we often missed a laugh because we were still roaring at the previous one. We’re talking beverages spraying through the nose funny – luckily, I opted to not bring any liquids into the theatre. The amazing cast also includes Erin Jones, Robert McMullan and Karen Shue. You can still catch these guys until May 21:  www.villageplayers.net  Info/brochure of their 2011-12 season is now available as well.

Our own super gal Polly Esther (our very own Fiona Newman) was in an amazing production of The Vagina Monologues – one of the V-Day 2011  event shows going on throughout the month. My pal Julie Florio and I were very excited about seeing this – and I’d only ever read the script before – so it was incredible to see this wonderful and diverse cast bring these characters to life on stage. Polly was hilarious and full of energy and enthusiasm (like she is in everyday life). Director Alex Dallas ended up doing double duty and performed as well, filling in for a missing actor – and she was brilliant! This show only ran two days, so you won’t be able to catch this one now – but there are more V-Day events/shows to come. Check out their website: www.vdaytoronto.com

I also saw Soulpepper’s production of Our Town, which included a talkback with some of the cast afterwards – LOVED it! They have a few more performances of this show, so catch it while you can: http://www.soulpepper.ca/
