Auditions start next week for the final production in Alumnae Theatre Company’s 2014/15 season, Shirley Barrie’s historical drama I Am Marguerite, which will run in April.
But BEFORE that show comes our hugely popular New Ideas Festival, now in its 27th year. Never-before-produced short scripts were solicited from writers around the world late in the summer, and in November, 15 were selected by a jury to be produced in the Festival. Directors have been chosen and matched with plays, so now it’s time for the actors.
Open call for non-union actors of all ages (18+) and ethnicities – for the New Ideas Festival (March 11–29, 2015), a three-week juried festival of 15 new works.
A program of 4 different plays will be presented each week, running from Wednesday to Sunday, with a staged reading at noon on each Saturday.
General Auditions will be held:
January 7, 8 & 9 evenings
January 10 & 11 daytime
Callbacks the second/third week of January
Actors must be available for rehearsals beginning February 1.
Auditions will be booked according to age and gender, so actors should keep all the audition dates free until they receive an audition time.
Actors will perform a two-minute monologue of their choice and
a side from one of the plays. (Alumnae Theatre Company members have the choice of reading two sides rather than presenting a prepared monologue.) Sides will be available on the Alumnae website (http://www.alumnaetheatre.com) after December 20.
Please print an appropriate side and bring it to the audition
along with your résumé and headshot.
Note that all directors and many playwrights attend the general auditions, so be prepared for a full house.
To book an audition, please email (after Dec. 6): firstname.lastname@example.org
Give your name, gender, acting age range, email address, phone number, and say whether you are an Alumnae member.
No emails between December 20 and 27 please.
Auditions will be held in the Studio at Alumnae Theatre, 70 Berkeley Street, Toronto.
